OVGA Meeting 9/2/2023

Club Championship

  • OVGA club championship will be held September 16th & 17th, it will be an individual 2 day stroke play tournament with a gross and net division broken into an open and senior division. Sign up using this link or in the hallway.
  • It will be straight tee start (tee time) on Saturday and a shotgun on Sunday both at 9 a.m.
  • We will have the awards and a meal (potato salad) on Sunday following play
  • There will be $45 (cash) fee for the club championship (this will include your round Sunday, bet and side games for the weekend, food on Sunday) , you need to pay Saturday’s green fees like normal

Saturday Blitz early sign-up was voted on and approved.

  • Sign up via electronic invite or physical list in the hallway by Thursday evening (5 p.m.)
  • We will use pace of play for the order
  • Please arrive in ample time to be ready with your group when it’s your turn; if you can’t be found 15 minutes prior to tee off then your spot may be filled by a standby
  • There will be a standby list (the order of fill will be based on the order of arrival) Standbys will be filled as a foursome first and then filling in cancellations/no shows/ threesomes from the last group to the first. I.e. 5 people show up for stand-by the first individual will be put in the last open slot on the tee sheet and the other four will go off last as a foursome but you must be on the standby list by 0830
  • The standby list should not be your normal means of playing instead as an option for unplanned occurrences

Memorial Bench

  • The memorial bench is in it’s final stages. We have selected a vendor and the plaques we will use, the bench will be ordered when we find the best pricing including shipping. One final action needed is to come up with the Main Plaque stating what it is; OVGA members gone…., so if you have any good ideas for those words let me know.

2 Man Tournament

  • An October 2 man 1 day event was voted on and approved. We will work with the course to find the best date and a format.

Closing Notes

Finally, we need to be mindful of pace of play, if you are holding up the blitz group behind you 1) pick up the pace and get back into position or 2) Let them play through. If you know on the 1st tee it may be an issue just switch spots with the group behind you. We need to marshall ourselves and be respectful to the rest of our group and the other golfers out there. I’m not asking you to run or rush so much that it is not enjoyable but… Be ready when it’s your turn, don’t sit in the cart till it’s your turn then get out get a club walk to your ball…. Speaking of carts be conscious of where we park them…. You should know where your playing partner’s ball is and what their scores are, it’s your responsibility to protect the field. Our pace of play system isn’t perfect and stuff can happen but it’s better than nothing and an honest attempt to make the game more enjoyable for all.
